Check Out the Rio 2016 Olympic Logo

Design firm Tátil Design bested 138 other agencies in winning the bid to design the 2016 Olympic logo. The firms competing did not have a chance to elicit client feedback in advance, as the Olympic committee required a nearly-completed logo as part of its submission process.

The inspiration for the logo came from the curves of the hills of Brazil, said Creative Director Frederico Gelli. The creative concept was to take these curves and translate them into a symbol that represented infinity. We found the fact that the designers relied on 3D modeling to flesh out the idea to be very interesting.

While most designers avoid spec jobs on principle, here's an example of a situation where, if you have supreme confidence in your design ability, taking the chance can pay off in a big way.
